Welcome to the future! Welcome to RelAXE!


In the future, after work, when the sun goes down, people go to relaxation centers to get rid of their worries.

Play as Nova, a compassionate robot maid working at RelAXE, and help stressed customers to relax by visualizing and axing their stressful thoughts (literally!).

Gameplay

  • Aim with the crank and press any button/direction on the D-pad to slash.
  • Avoid positive thoughts.
  • Axe multiple stressful thoughts in one slash to earn more points.
  • Act quickly to increase your chain counter.

Game Jam Version

This game was made for Uncrank'd 2025 Pre-Summer Game Jam. The themes were Futuristic, Relaxation and Golden Hour.

Made in C with Melice, my own game library.

Game code, graphics, music and sound effects were made by me during the Game Jam period.

Love this! Is there any repercussions if I got the questions after the session wrong? I'm also curious if this is all with the same person or different clients. Could be cool to have different clients with different sorts of internal thoughts, maybe each client is like a "world" like Mario with different levels. The gameplays satisfying, excited to see the full version of this.

Thanks! In this version, there are no repercussions if you get the questions wrong after a session, but it’s something I am pondering for an extended version. Regarding the customer, for now, yes, it is the same person all along. But I would like to introduce different customers later. The idea would be that you can follow how their life goes as the game progresses and their stress source changes.

Wow, this was great! I hope you find inspiration to expand on this outside the scope of the jam. Some ideas: Have festering negative thoughts that have more hit points. Am I an individual person or various visitors? (Oh, I guess I’m Nova). There can be some reward or focus on the positive thoughts. Perhaps collect enough positive thoughts they then compress into a delightful “pearl like thought” and reward the player with story progression on that success or a zen level with a bubbly soundtrack. 

Idea’s aside, you really nailed this Jams concept👍

Thank you! Yes, I was already thinking about adding thought bubbles with more hit points in later levels. There is already a reward if you manage to avoid positive thoughts, but I like the idea of combining multiple positive thoughts to get something even better. I will try to think about it. I was also thinking of a “zone” mode when the player manages to get a high chain count with (maybe) dedicated music. My main problem is time to implement all of this 😅
